Rob started boxing in 1993.
I started Muay Thai boxing training in 1993 under the Instruction of Kru John and Lee Mallinson who still train in Huddersfield and Halifax. Training was held three times a week, twice at Huddersfield leisure centre and once at Top Bodies gym. I attended training religiously despite my commitments to my University degree course.
I supplemented training with weight training every morning in the University gym before my first lecture, and attended training 4 nights per week. The remaining nights I found myself training in my Fathers garage on my make shift punch bag. I often remember kicking the punch bag off the wall as the fixings that I had installed as a 17 year old student was far from adequate! The forth training session was held at Stockport where I used to travel to every Wednesday evening to train with Fighters such as Paul Tite, Peter Davies and Richard Lewis.
As soon as I reached Brown armband, under the grading scheme of Master Sken it was possible for me to start teaching under the guidance of Kru John and Lee Mallinson. I taught approximately 10 – 15 students every Thursday night at Top Bodies gym in Huddersfield from the age of 18. The venue was less than average and has since been demolished. Teaching and training continued until 1999 when I graduated from Leeds University with a 2:1 Honours degree, unfortunately I was forced to stop teaching and training at Huddersfield due to my relocation to Knutsford in Cheshire.
I continued training how ever I was unable to teach as the club rules stated that you could not have your own club until you reached Red Armband grade and could only teach under the supervision of another Instructor. I continued training in Stockport and Sale until I received my Brown 3 armband and was allowed to teach again. In October 2002 I received my Red armband instructor grade. I would like to thank Paul Tite for his help, guidance and motivation through my years of training.
